Your Guided Garden Tour Of Mayo
Visit some of the most beautiful gardens in Ireland with us and enjoy a short break in Mayo. Before reaching our hotel, we'll learn more about Irish history at the Strokestown Park & National Famine Museum. Our base throughout this tour will be in Westport, a charming coastal town known for its picturesque Georgian architecture, vibrant cultural scene, and stunning views of Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick. Next, we'll take in the county’s breathtaking scenery as we travel through Connemara to visit Kylemore Abbey, a Benedictine monastery renowned for its beautiful Victorian walled gardens, Gothic church, and scenic lakeside setting. Other highlights of our garden tour of Mayo include exploring the Neolithic archaeological site of Ceide Fields with ancient tombs and dwellings, visiting Enniscoe House, a historic Georgian country house, and the picturesque Drimbawn Garden. Day
Strokestown Park & National Famine Museum
Depart Dublin and Strokestown Park & National Famine Museum
Depart with our garden guide, Brona Dore on our private coach from The Alex Hotel in Dublin and travel (with a comfort stop en route) to Strokestown Park and National Famine Museum.
There will be a private guided tour of the house followed by free time to visit the Famine Museum. Following free time for lunch (at own expense) we will visit the garden with Brona.
Later this afternoon we travel onwards to the Westport Plaza Hotel where our tour is based. An evening meal is included each night during out stay.
Kylemore Abbey & Garden Haven
Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Gardens
Depart after breakfast for a scenic drive to the wonderful Kylemore Abbey Gardens in Connemara. Free time for coffee on arrival before a short bus ride and guided tour by the Head Gardener, through these wonderful fully restored gardens.
Kylemore Abbey’s Victorian Walled Garden is an oasis of ordered splendour divided in two by a beautiful mountain stream. Today it is a Heritage Garden displaying only plant varieties from the Victorian Era.
Free time for lunch and shopping before our departure.
Garden Haven
This afternoon join us on a visit to Garden Haven in Westport. This garden was started over 20 years ago from a boggy field and is home to a mix of native trees, hedges, flower beds, a wildlife pond and tunnels.
We will return to our hotel later this afternoon.
Ceide Fields & Enniscoe House
Ceide Fields
This morning we start our day with a visit to Ceide Fields Neolithic Site, containing the oldest known stone-walled fields in the world dating back nearly 6000 years. The award winning visitor centre is set against dramatic rock formations with a viewing platform on the edge of a 110 meter high cliff overlooking breathtaking scenery.
Enniscoe House
Following some free time for lunch (at own expense) we will enjoy a guided visit to Enniscoe House at the foot of Mount Nephin. Enniscoe is your opportunity to experience life in a heritage house. Outside the house are pastures & woodlands with lakeside walks and a carefully restored Victorian Garden.
Drimbawn Garden & Return to Dublin
Drimbawn Garden
After checking out of our hotel we will depart for a morning visit to Drimbawn Garden, situated on the shores of Lough Mask. A guided tour by the Head Gardener, Frank Steffens, will lead us through the beautifully restored walled garden, orchard and woodland.
Return to Dublin
Next we travel a short distance to Maire Luke's Bar & Restaurant which has spectacular views over the lake for a pre-arranged lunch (at own expense) before returning to Dublin in the late afternoon. There will be a comfort stop en route.
