Old Havana

Old Havana

Havana’s Spanish colonial city centre is truly a blast from the past. Built in stunning baroque and neoclassical style, it’s no wonder Old Havana has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On our holidays to Cuba, we’ll explore Old Havana including the Castillo de la Real Fuerza (Castle of the Royal Force), the Plaza Vieja and the 18th century Cuban Baroque style Palace of the Generals. We’ll also visit some of Ernest Hemingway’s old haunts like the Bodeguita del Medio and the El Floridita bar, which features a life size bronze statue of the famous writer.

Varadero

Varadero

Located in the province of Matanzas, Varadero is one of the largest resort areas in the Caribbean. Varadero is sometimes also called Playa Azul, meaning ‘blue beach’, for its crystal blue waters. Perched on the wafer-thin Hicacos Peninsula, Varadero boasts 20km of unbroken powder white sand. On our holidays to Cuba, we’ll spend a few days soaking up the sun on Varadero’s impressive beaches and have time to explore the surrounding province of Matanzas, with its narrow roads, beautiful farmland and expansive sugarcane field, on a full day jeep tour.

Hemingway's Home & Haunts

One of Havana’s most famous in habitants was the American novelist, Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway lived in Cuba for 20 years and wrote some of his most famous novels while in the country, including For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea. On our holidays to Cuba, we’ll walk in the footsteps of Hemingway on a half day excursion including a visit to his home, Finca Vigía, the Hotel Ambos Mundos and the fishing village of Cojímar.

Cuban cigars are possibly the country’s most famous export and Cuba’s Tobacco Land, Pinar del Río, is the area where the tobacco for these coveted items is grown. Located on the western side of Cuba, this area’s rich red limestone soil gives the tobacco its unique taste. On our holidays to Cuba, we’ll travel through Pinar del Rio to visit a "Casa del Veguero" or tobacco farm including tobacco fields and the farm’s drying house while we learn about the process of making Cuban Cigars.

This incredible island country was closed off from tourism until the fall of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s and its relative isolation means that it has maintained an authentically Cuban atmosphere. When traveling with us on a Cuba holiday, we’ll immerse ourselves in everything this country has to offer from delicious food to breathtaking sights and rich history. We’ll have the opportunity to travel in a vintage car from the 1950s as we experience what life was like before the Cuban Revolution and snorkel in the incredible coral reefs that surround the island’s beautiful white-sand beaches. Our holidays to Cuba include tour highlights of this beautiful country including the buzzing capital, Havana, the stunning resort town of Varadero, and the rural Tobacco farming region of Pinar del Rio. What is included in my holiday?

Travel Department holidays include flights, transfers and hotel accommodation on bed and breakfast, half board or full board basis, and excursions as specified.

All items that are included are clearly stated in our documentation. Add-ons such as insurance, bags and single room supplements are mentioned separately. In some cases you may have to pay a local departure tax or local transport cost. This will be detailed in your documentation and our local guides will assist you with these. Tipping is not included in your holiday price and information regarding tipping will also be included with your travel documents.

Will I be met at the airport?

You will be met on arrival at your destination airport and transferred to your accommodation. You will be accompanied on all included excursions by your Travel Department guide. Your expert local guide is also available to give you tips and advice on any aspect of your holiday.

What is the deposit and when is full payment due?

Deposit is required on booking and is dependent on your holiday type and starts at €100pp for city breaks. Full payment is due 10 weeks before departure hence if you book less than 10 weeks from departure full payment will be due when you book.
