Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate was built during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm II as a symbol of peace, but became a symbol of East/West division and a locked door in the Berlin Wall during the Cold War Era. Today, the Brandenburg Gate symbolises the reunification of Berlin and is one of the most visited monuments in the city. Between 1961 and 1990, Checkpoint Charlie was the only crossing point between East and West Berlin for Allied Forces and was also the scene of the famous Berlin Crisis of 1961. Today, this important border crossing point in the wall that divided West and East Berlin is now a shrine to the wall's memory. One of the most visited attractions in Berlin, Checkpoint Charlie is a must-see on any visit to the city. We’ll visit this historic landmark with an expert, local guide on our holidays to Berlin.

The remains of the infamous Berlin Wall have now become the largest open-air art gallery in the world. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, artists from around the world began painting on the sections. The longest preserved section of the wall stretches from Ostbahnhof station to the Oberbaumbrücke, and is now the East Side Gallery. On our trips to Berlin, we’ll have plenty of free time to explore this must-see attraction at a leisurely pace, taking in the incredible art and history of the gallery.

Originally built to house the German Parliament in the 1800s, The Reichstag Building has been an important part of German government ever since. The German Parliament still meets in the Reichstag today but the building has also become one of Germany’s largest tourist attractions. The building’s beautiful glass copula sits directly above the debating chamber and provides stunning views of the city of Berlin, particularly in the evening.
