Lake Garda, Venice & Verona By Rail

Welcome to Italy! Upon arrival, we’ll be greeted in the arrivals area by our local representative, who will accompany us to our hotel in Desenzano, located on the southwestern shores of stunning Lake Garda. As we travel, our guide will share interesting insights about the region, offer suggestions for local activities, and be available to answer any questions.

After a relaxing breakfast, we’ll meet our guide for a short orientation tour of Desenzano before we set off on a scenic boat tour of Lake Garda. Along the way, we’ll admire the charming towns and villages that line the lake’s shoreline, arriving in the picturesque town of Salo. Here, we’ll enjoy a short guided walking tour followed by some free time to explore, have lunch, or simply soak up the atmosphere. In the afternoon, we’ll return by boat to our hotel.

Today is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Take time to explore Desenzano’s town centre, browse local boutiques, or stroll along the lakeside promenade. Your local guide will be happy to recommend optional excursions or hidden gems suited to your interests.

This morning, we’ll set off on a full-day excursion to the enchanting city of Venice. With our guide leading the way, we’ll walk to the local station and board a train from Desenzano for a scenic 90-minute journey. Upon arrival, we’ll walk from the station (2.2km) to begin our short walking tour (45min) before enjoying free time to explore some of Venice’s most iconic landmarks, including St. Mark’s Square, the stunning Gothic Ca’ d’Oro, and the grand Doge’s Palace. There will be time to visit the Galleria Franchetti, stroll across the famous Rialto Bridge, and enjoy some free time to wander the charming canals and hidden alleyways. In the late afternoon, we’ll return by train.

Today, take it easy and embrace the slower pace of lakeside life. Enjoy a lazy morning, explore local markets or cafes, and perhaps treat yourself to an alfresco lunch or a glass of wine with lake views. It’s the perfect opportunity to relax and reflect on your journey so far. 

Optional Excursion to Borghetto with wine tasting Let’s explore more of this charming region of Lake Garda with an optional tour. Join us for a visit to the enchanting medieval village of Borghetto, built on the banks of the Mincio River. Later we will enjoy a visit to San Martino della Battaglia for our included wine tasting at the historic Cascina Capuzza winery.

Let’s continue our Italian journey with a full-day excursion to the timeless city of Verona, just a quick 30-minute train ride away. This morning, we’ll walk to Desenzano station with our guide and head off to discover this UNESCO World Heritage Site. On arrival in Verona join us as we walk from the station (2.4km) to the historic centre for our walking tour (45min). Verona is renowned for its impressive Roman amphitheatre—host to the famed Verona Opera Festival—and its picturesque historic center. Be sure to visit Juliet’s balcony, a favourite spot for romantics and photographers alike. After a day of exploring Verona’s charm and history, we’ll return to Desenzano by train.

Make the most of your last day in Desenzano. Whether you choose to relax by the lake, shop for souvenirs, or indulge in a final gelato or espresso at a lakeside café, take time to savour the beauty and charm of Lake Garda.

After checking out of our hotel, we’ll transfer by coach to the airport for our return flight home, taking with us memories of an unforgettable Italian escape.
