5 Reasons to visit St. Petersburg

Caroline, our Senior Sales Executive, visited St. Petersburg a couple of years ago and had an amazing experience. Check out her top five reasons why you should visit this beautiful and historical city.
1. Catherine’s Palace & Gardens
Known as the summer residence of the tsars, the palace was reconstructed from a shell after the German forces destroyed it during the siege of Leningrad. The gardens offer a peaceful contrast to the bustling city and pleasant walks around the lake.
2. Matryoshka nesting dolls
Purchase these wonderful souvenirs in the city where they were invented. The dolls come in all shapes, sizes and designs and range from very inexpensive to fairly pricey for the more elaborately decorated sets.
3. Canal cruise along the River Neva
A canal cruise through the city gives you an opportunity to admire the European influenced architecture of St. Petersburg, taking in the sites of the Hermitage, the winter palace, the palace embankment and the Peter & Paul Fortress.
4. The Hermitage Museum
Housing one of the oldest and largest art collections in the world; with only a small portion of its 3 million+ items ever being on display. To see every piece of work at The Hermitage would take approximately 3 years.
5. Architecture
St. Petersburg is filled with wonderful baroque and neoclassical architecture. Numerous public buildings including train stations, government buildings, theatres and banks are incredible architectural gems.
