Your Guided Group Holiday To Basque
Travel with us to experience the Basque region’s distinct culture, cuisine and language on this guided group holiday with 7-nights in Pamplona. Though it’s most famous for the Running of the Bulls, there is far more to the city than the festival of San Fermin. Pamplona’s history dates all the way back to Roman times, and today it is still home to an impressive medieval citadel and city walls, considered the best conserved fortifications in Spain. We’ll learn the history of the city and more on a half day walking tour. Three full day excursions are also included in the trip to discover some of the other incredible destinations in the area. We’ll visit the vibrant city of Bilbao, home to the Guggenheim Museum; hop across the French border to the seaside resort of Biarritz; and discover the stunning coastal town of San Sebastian, often called the Pearl of Northern Spain.

You will continue from there through “Calle Estafeta” where raging bulls and brave young men and women run the 800m long street to the bullring during the annual Running of the Bulls. There stands a beautiful statue of Ernest Hemingway which observes the race which has been held every year for the past 100 years. The famous book written by Hemingway ‘The Sun also Rises’ has brought Pamplona fame throughout the world. Enjoy your lunch and the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Following some free time for lunch, you will continue your tour along the river Nervion. On the tour, the guide will tell you about the recent history and the economy of the city. Three famous architects have made a huge difference to the city of Bilbao; Frank Gehry designed the Guggenheim museum, Norman Foster designed the metro stations with the famous glass tubes at their entrances’ and Santiago Caltrava designed the airport and its unique white bridge – Zubizuri. All of these features, and a change in the outlook of the city have made it the biggest metropolitan area in the Basque Country and a very attractive place to visit. There will be the option to visit the Guggenheim museum or to enjoy some free time to explore the more modern quarter which the museum calls home.
Walking Tour along Biarritz
Biarritz is a chic French resort on the Bay of Biscay, which has long made its fortune from the sea, as a whaling settlement from the 12th century onwards. In the 18th century, doctors claimed that the ocean at Biarritz had therapeutic properties inspiring patients to take pilgrimages to the beach for alleged cures for their ailments. As part of your tour, you will take a beautiful walk along the seaside promenade by the ‘Camino a la Roca de la Virgin’ and finish at a famous rock. You will also visit the fishing port and then walk to the city centre of Biarritz where you will see the Orthodox Church and go to a typical market called ‘Mercado Les Halles’.
