Your Guided Group Holiday To Waterford
Join us to experience the gardens of Waterford and enjoy a short break in this wonderful county. The first stop of our garden holiday will be a visit to Arboretum Garden Centre before we go to the historic Lismore Castle Gardens. Set against the backdrop of the castle and surrounding countryside, the gardens contain yew tree avenues, flowering meadows and kitchen gardens. We’ll then be transported to Japan, as we explore Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens. Inspired by Patrick Lafcadio Hearn, a Greek/Irish writer, we’ll learn his life story as we explore the various styles of garden. We’ll visit Mount Congreve Gardens which was reverently developed by Ambrose Congreve, who was awarded a CBE by Queen Elizabeth II for his achievements. Our final stops will be Tourin House, home to the Jameson family and Fairbrook House & Gardens, which features lavender fields and a 80m wisteria walk. Travel with us to visit these inspiring and diverse gardens in Waterford.

Travel to Waterford & Arboretum Garden Centre
We depart today from The Alex Hotel in Dublin by coach, with a comfort stop en route. Visit to the Arboretum Garden Centre before continuing onwards to Lismore.
Lismore Castle Gardens
We will have free time for lunch at leisure (not included) before enjoying a visit to Lismore Castle Gardens. The historic gardens of Lismore Castle are essentially two distinct gardens. Both are set within the castle walls and comprise of 7 acres with spectacular views of the Castle and surrounding countryside. Following our visit we will transfer onwards to our hotel located in Waterford city.
Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens & Mount Congreve Gardens
Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens
Our full day excursion will begin with a visit to Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens in Tramore. These stunning gardens reflect the life and extensive wanderings of Patrick Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo), who grew up in Ireland, and whose life journey embraced several parts of the world. The gardens pay homage to the fame he attained in Japan through his incomparable literary descriptions of the people, customs and culture of that country.
Mount Congreve & Private Garden Visit
This afternoon we will visit Mount Congreve Gardens. The Gardens comprise around seventy acres of intensively planted woodland, a four acre walled garden and 16 kilometres of walkways.
Following our visit we will board the Waterford Suir Valley narrow gauge railway from the station at Kilmeadan to Bilberry.
Our final visit of the day is to a private garden before returning to our hotel.
Tourin House & Garden and Abbey Road Garden
This morning will be free to explore Waterford city at your leisure.
Tourin House & Garden and Abbey Road Garden
This afternoon we depart the city for a guided visit and lunch at Tourin House & Garden. An Italianate style villa with classical proportions, Tourin House was finished in 1841. The gardens at Tourin cover over 15 acres including the main garden, walled garden, and extended broad-leaved woodland walks, which lead to the banks of the river Blackwater and Tourin Quay.
Later this afternoon we will visit Abbey Road Gardens, a plant collector's cottage style garden, before returning to our hotel.
Fairbrook House & Gardens and Return to Dublin
Fairbrook House & Gardens
Following breakfast this morning we check out of our hotel and depart Waterford city for a visit to Fairbrook House & Gardens. The romantic walled garden was established by artists Clary Maternbroek and Wout Muller in 1994.
Beechdale Garden Centre & Return to Dublin
This afternoon we will have free time at Beechdale Garden Centre for lunch (not included) at The Wildflower Cafe.
Return to The Alex Hotel late afternoon.
