Tours from Dubrovnik

Our tours from Dubrovnik offer the perfect combination of sun-kissed coasts, stunning views, chic restaurants and beautiful medieval buildings. So beautiful in fact, its well-preserved city walls and towers were used as a filming location for ‘Game of Thrones.’ Renowned as one of the top sights in Croatia, many fans of the show have chosen to take a trip to Dubrovnik along with other history lovers.

After the war, the Old Town was restored; on our walking tours Dubrovnik, you can experience examples of Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture. There is also an optional day trip to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where we’ll see the iconic Mostar bridge or Stari Most. A Dubrovnik holiday is full of culture and there is plenty to see and admire.

On our Dubrovnik holidays, we’ll explore some of the city’s most famous and important landmarks including the Dubrovnik Cathedral, Pile Gate, City Walls and charming Old Town. We’ll also have the opportunity to visit some of the nearby islands just off the coast of Dubrovnik, including the pristine Elaphite Islands and the lush island of Lokrum.

All our Dubrovnik holidays from Dublin include return flights, accommodation, transfers and excursions led by a local expert guide. We also offer a variety of other Croatia tours to inspire you further.

Top Places To Visit In Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik’s Old Town

The Old Town of Dubrovnik is known for its cobbled streets, red-roofed buildings and towering defensive walls. Wandering through the dazzling streets and squares of the Old Town is a great way to spend a few relaxing hours. At night the town is buzzing with activity, and visitors can enjoy a drink outside at one of the numerous bars & cafés and watch the world go by. On our trips to Dubrovnik, we’ll enjoy plenty of free time to explore the Old Town’s historic sites or pick up beautiful local art and handmade items in the city’s quaint shops.

Elaphite Islands

The Elaphite Islands are a small group of largely uninhabited islands just off the coast of Dubrovnik. The name Elaphite comes for the Ancient Greek word for “deer” and was named for the large herds of deer that inhabited the archipelago. The first mention of the islands was in the first century AD, when the Roman Geographer Pliny the Elder described them in his 37 volume Historia Naturalis. On our trips to Dubrovnik, we’ll have the opportunity to take a boat trip out to explore a few of these beautiful unspoilt islands.

Lokrum Island

The island of Lokrum is a densely wooded nature reserve with a spectacular botanical garden and the remains of a Habsburg fortress. The Fort was built in the shape of a five-pointed star by the French army in 1806, and from the top there is an impressive panoramic view overlooking the island and the city of Dubrovnik. The island is just a ten-minute ferry ride from Dubrovnik Old Town and can be booked locally. On our holidays to Dubrovnik, we’ll enjoy plenty of free time to explore the island at leisure.

Dubrovnik’s City Walls

Dubrovnik’s famous City Walls were built between the 13th and 16th centuries and are still completely intact despite the city being under siege for nearly eight months during the 1991 Croatian War of Independence. The walls are over 2km long and 25m high with no less than 16 towers. A walk along the walls, which takes about 2 hours in its entirety, is a must for any trip to Dubrovnik. On our holidays to Dubrovnik, we’ll enjoy plenty of free time to walk the walls at leisure.

Pile Gate

For centuries, this has been the main entrance to Dubrovnik's Old Town. Built in 1537, it used to be surrounded by a moat and the drawbridge used to close at night time, but it’s open 24/7. Above the gate, there is a statue of Saint Blaise, the city’s patron saint, which was carved by the Croatian artist Ivan Meštrovic.

Stradun

Stradun is the name of the main street in Dubrovnik’s Old Town.  It is full of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and is the perfect place to sit back, relax and watch the world go by.  Make sure to visit a “gelateria” for a tasty ice cream that will rival any made in Italy!

Dubrovnik Cable Car

Take a cable car ride up to the peak of Mount Srđ. The cable car ride is a must do, it takes less than 5 minutes and you will be rewarded with an incredible view of the Old Town and its surroundings.

Franciscan Monastery

Although most of the original building was destroyed in the 1667 earthquake, visitors can still enjoy the Romanesque cloister and gardens. Above the church door there is an ornate portal carved by local monks in 1498. It’s also the location of the longest operating pharmacy in Europe since 1317 and an on-site museum housing a collection of art and rare books.

Rector's Palace

Built in the late 15th Century, this was formerly the residence of the city’s governor. Today this Venetian-Gothic palace houses the Cultural History Museum, where you can learn more about the history of Ragusa, a republic that ruled Dubrovnik from 1358 until 1808.

Fort of St. John

Dating back to the 14th century and known locally as the Fort of St. Ivan, it was an integral part of the defence complex of Dubrovnik city walls and would help guard the Old Harbour. Today it houses the Maritime Museum, which provides an interesting insight into the naval history of Dubrovnik, and the aquarium.
